Leadership Experience
During my undergraduate degree, I was the Co-Chair of the Undergraduate Social Work Club. During this time, I led the group on volunteer projects and scheduled times to connect them with community social service agencies so they could learn more about the nuances of the non profit world, as well as network with community partners and potential employers. During my practicum placement at the end of my undergraduate program, I worked with the Missoula Food Bank & Community Center (MFB & CC), leading the charge in the intersection of housing and food insecurity research. As a leader and a voice in my community, I find it important to create relationships with people and work together on a common goal. While I was at MFB & CC, I worked closely with many other agencies, include Reaching Home Montana (through the Office of Community and Housing Development), Missoula Interfaith Collaborative, the At-Risk Housing Coalition, Missoula Housing Authority, as well as with the people who are truly experiencing housing insecurity in our town. I am an action-oriented person, and follow my passion and intuition when it comes to vulnerable populations. My goal is to leave Missoula a better place to live when I am gone.
Currently, I work for the University of Montana with the School of Social Work 2+2 Distance Learning Program. My frustrations while attending school at UM, during a time of uncertainty and budget cuts, left me wanting more for future students and more for our community. I am in this position to support and create infrastructure for a very important aspect of higher education that is gaining more traction every year. I intend to be a leader in creating a comprehensive and well-rounded online learning platform, for students in tribal and rural communities to feel empowered to take their skills and creatively fuse them with their unique communities. This empowerment is a foundation for a better Montana for all, with caring and competent Social Workers in every community.
