My proudest leadership time would have to be when I was in the US Navy. I was an E3 with the responsibilities of an E6 and was in charge of the Female Barracks in Pensacola. There were 685 residents and I had 20 Yeoman under my direct management. I learned so so much and was able to build a great relationship with my people with the help of my chief and mentor. She was a firecracker and taught me so very much. The best piece of advice she ever gave me was “if you’re climbing the ladder, you have to be reaching down and pulling someone up behind you. Always be training your replacement, because they are a reflection of you.”
Other leadership moments would include working in the Aviation Electronics Shop on the ship I was stationed on. I learned the value of listening to your teammates, working right alongside those that are below you, and how to lead from the front rather than managing from above.
I also got to experience great leadership while working in the Call Center at First Interstate Bank. I was one of the top representatives in the group and was able to train the new hires and really become a resource for those who were just beginning their careers with the company. I was proud to be a part of their first steps with the banking world.
How I Want to Participate in PowerHouse
I would love to participate in a Mentor role for anyone with questions regarding banking roles, military service, resume/interview help, etc.
