After years of working at the bottom of the ladder in customer service jobs (mostly coffee and food related) and moving around constantly with my partner who was in the US Navy, I found it incredibly important for me to find my own footing and follow what makes my heart flutter. I came back to school at University of Montana to finish my undergrad in Social Work because at the end of the day, I am an empath and am deeply passionate about my community and the people in it. When I moved back to Missoula after we were free from the Navy, I found a job at a start-up company, at first just working in the warehouse. I quickly found my worth there and was judged not on only my education (which was “some college” at this point) but on my actual skills. I am a hard worker and a natural born leader, who loves collaborating with people and working together to find solutions. Since I was finally valued externally for these skills, that I had yet been unaware I had, I have flourished in my studies and all volunteer positions since then. I am now just about to graduate with my BSW and am ready to find a job! In all of my roles thus far, I have lead groups, as the Co-Chair of the Undergraduate Social Work Club, to the leader of group projects in my upper division social work classes, to the autonomy in my current practicum placement. I am an action-oriented person who loves to see things get done.
