How I Want to Participate in PowerHouse
What motivates and inspires you?
Children. My children, children in refugee camps, children all across the globe smiling and playing and thriving amidst chaos. Children are so present. So forgiving. So creative.
Who are your sheroes?
Abigail Adams! She inoculated her own children against smallpox while John was abroad securing financing for the war. Malala. Margaret Thatcher. Sacajawea- what an adventure!
What technology do you love and recommend to others?
What about books, ideas or podcasts?
I love reading. Recent favorites: Euphoria by Lily King. Bend, Not Break, by Ping Fu. The Rosie Project. The Boys in the Boat is a wonderful read and incredibly inspiring i.e. history and leadership.
Podcasts: “Intelligence Squared” debates are my go to.
How do you reboot?
Dancing always helps. Quiet time in nature, whitewater kayaking where you’re forced to be totally present, practicing gratitude, time with my children to remind me it’s all small stuff.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
My family. My marriage. I think it’s Sheryl Sandberg who said who you marry is an incredibly important life decision. I got that one right and it has made the world of difference for me in other opportunities I can explore.
Words of wisdom you want to share with Montana women?
Two words of wisdom- Enjoy and Start. I say Enjoy, because it’s not enough to just fight for this world (not my term ,Edward Abbey’s), but you have to enjoy it. Revel in it.
And the second is Start. One step, then another. Everyone starts somewhere, and to me the key is starting. Showing up. Perfect is the enemy of good.
